Fix-It/Home Repairs

Fixing small problems around the house can make a big difference in feeling safe and comfortable at home.

Our Fix-It Program connects community members with trusted volunteers and handypeople who can help with minor home repairs and safety upgrades. Whether it’s installing a grab bar, replacing a light fixture, securing a loose step, or patching a leaky faucet, we’re here to lend a hand.

Aging homes—and aging residents—sometimes need small fixes to stay livable and safe. Our goal is to help neighbors maintain their independence and peace of mind without the burden of costly repairs or long waits for help.

Typical projects include:

  • Installing grab bars, handrails, or non-slip surfaces

  • Fixing door locks, light switches, or minor plumbing issues

  • Repairing steps, decks, or loose railings

  • Replacing smoke detector batteries and lightbulbs

  • Helping improve basic home safety and accessibility

To keep things smooth and safe:

  • Volunteers are background-checked and skilled in minor home repairs

  • Larger projects may be completed by a licensed professional, coordinated by our team

  • Each project is reviewed in advance to make sure it’s safe, manageable, and the right fit for our services

  • Repairs are free to the client, with supplies covered by our program whenever possible

If you or someone you know needs a little extra help making their home safer, we’re here to help. And if you have a knack for fixing things and want to volunteer your skills, we’d love to hear from you!
